About

I'm a second-career teacher. My first career was going to college. It didn't pay nearly as well as my current one. 6 1/2 years later, here I am. I earned a B.A. in Communication Arts from Wartburg College in 4 years, but embraced my passion too late to finish an education degree there. As soon as I graduated, I started at the University of Northern Iowa in their Second B.A. program.

I teach 6th Grade Language Arts and Social Studies at Waukee Middle School in Waukee, Iowa. You can find our classroom blog at MrGoerend.com.

I'm looking at this blog as a conversation of what I'm doing, what I'm thinking, and what I'm learning. I also see it as putting my money where my mouth is as a life-long learner. Contribute as little or as much as you'd like.

I've got a few goals for this blog:

• Challenge and be challenged
• Communicate with colleagues in our field as well as those interested in the growth of our children
• Weigh my personal decisions and abilities as an educator with my short- and long-term goals
• Gather resources to share with the education community
